Another creepy over-use of CGI
24 October 2010 | by Hussain_Droopybuns (Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakmenistan) – See all my reviews

My 3 year old loves CGI movies, even Beverly Hills Chihuahua (which let's face it was pretty average at best). She didn't like this movie at all.

It's not cute, it's not adult, it's not a lot of things and the most important thing it isn't is entertaining.

This film is a horrible adaptation - the characters are not really likable, there is a confusing mish-mosh of adult aimed humor and situations involving the supervillain Megamind, and then just horrible parts featuring the humans. Will Ferrell is sinister and extremely creepy as the supervillain Megamind - he could have been kooky and funny, a little zany perhaps, but no, he comes across as aggressive, pushy and sinister.

The story itself is stupid and lacking in any real interest for the young kids this movie is really supposed to be aimed at. The adults forced to take the kids won't find anything better in it either.

I would advise anyone not to even both renting it for a dollar, it's not worth it, and I don't say that about many movies.

CGI may be very clever and way better than it used to be, but this movie over uses it to the point of boredom on the part of the viewer.

CGI isn't enough if there is no real, interesting story - I for one could care less about Brad Pitt and his new job at the pet food company.

Nothing about this movie is appealing!

Manual configuration
For the more adventurous, manual configuration allows you to customize each individual setting. The advantage is you can have control over how you want to access WAP. For example, you can set your WAP browser to open another WAP page instead of the default page provided by your service provider. The disadvantage is you may need to spend some time configuring your phone to make sure it works properly.

To set up your phone, you need to get the following information from your operator:

  • Bearer (Data or SMS)
  • Dial-up number
  • User name (if required)
  • Password (if required)
  • Data call type (analogue or ISDN)
  • Supported call speeds
  • Connection type (continuous or temporary)
  • Security (on or off)
  • Authentication (normal or secure)
  • IP address
  • Gateway user name (if required)
  • Gateway password (if required)
  • WAP home page

Bear in mind that not all these infomation is required. It depends on the model of your phone and also if your operator requires you to set those settings.

To make things easier, service operators usually provide a step-by-step guide to manually configuring your phone for WAP. SingTel users can find these guides on the e-ideas Web site. M1 users can find similar guides on the MiWorld Web site, while StarHub users can go to its Web site.

Of course, if you're feeling a tad lazy, you can always call up the respective customer service hotlines (SingTel at 1626, M1 at 1627, StarHub at 1633) and ask them to walk you through the set-up process.

Newest Girl Group: Pop Girls

E-mail Print PDF

Philippine pop music goes through a refreshing rebirth with the emergence of the newest girl group of five teenage scene with compelling charm, striking style and total talent.

Aptly, christened Pop Girls, the group is an outcome of the collaboration of two of the most influential names in the music industry-recording magnate Boss Vic del Rosario who was responsible for creating the biggest multimedia stars of the country such as Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Sarah Geronimo, among others; and topnotch dancer/choreographer Geleen Eugenio who honed the dancing skills of celebrities like Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor and brought Universal Motion Dancers to the peak of the their career.

Seeing the young as consistently plausible target, Boss Vic challenges Geleen to form a group of appealing young girls who are all exceptional in singing and dancing. Though she was set to leave for the US then, Geleen decided to forgo her initial plan to accept the project and called for an audition.

There were more than fifty hopefuls but only five passed the rigid screening. But the final decision came about when Boss Vic actually saw the chosen girls perform. He was swyaed right away with each of the girls that they were immediately awarded both management and recording contracts.

The fabulous five who make up POP GIRLS are twins Lai and Mar, both aged 16 and half Lebanese; Half Filipino, half Dutch Rose, 13 years old; Half Filipino, half Swiss Schai, 14 years old; the only pure Filipino in the group.

Though coming from various lineages, the girls perfectly jive together to form a melodic clique that is POP GIRLS. This impression is also very much in tune with the album the girls are now working on. Boss Vic has gathered renowed international producers Christian de Walden and Marcus Davis, along with local producer Civ Fontanilla, to pitch in their expertise to create one world class debut album.

Click

The debut album echoes the sound that is distinctly POP GIRLS- youthful, sweet, light, infections... with catchy beat that would make everyone groove and uncomplicated lyrics that would make everyone sing along. The songs mirror the colorful life of the young with themes such as puppy love, shopping, dancing, and basically having fun!

Now nearing its final stage of completion, the album is composed of 13 tracks, mostly original ones such as Crazy For You, and upbeat song by Marcus and Amber Davis and Crushy, written by Geleen Eugenio herself. Also included are covers of hits such as Urong-Sulong and Kapag Tumibok Ang Puso.

POP GIRLS indeed is the new face of music and sound of Philippine Pop Music. The teenage group is undoubtedly at par,
or even better than the rest of the Asian groups which continue to invaded the music scene today. POP GIRLS seals the country's rightful claim to P-POP as the new nickname for Philippine Pop Music to reflect the youthful flair of the group and the music, very much in the tradition of Korea's K-Pop and Japan's J-POP.

And as for LAi, Mar, Rose, Schai, and Nadine, these girls now become the new wholesome and well- educated trendsetters of the youth in the country, not only in terms of song, dance, and music but in personality and lifestyle as well.

Pinoy team wins Gold in Asian Pastry Cup

Posted on April 25th, 2010 under Art & Living Achievements

The Pastry Alliance of the Philippines team won a gold and several bronzes in various categories in the recently concluded Food and Hotel Asia (FHA) and Asian Pastry Cup (APC) 2010 competitions in Singapore.

Competing in what is the most awaited culinary event in the region, the team reaped awards alongside teams from Australia, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan.

Peachy Juban of Shortcrust and DLS-CSB’s entry, A-Flutter, a crowd favorite, won gold for its paper-thin hand-painted sugar butterflies, a modern and fresh take on classic ideas.

Jackie Ang-Po of Fleur-de-Lys and True Confections’ hard work and dedication paid off when she got a bronze in the very competitive Plated Desserts, where only four were awarded among 30 entries.

Jacqueline Laudico of Bistro Filipino also won bronze with Chocolate Pralines.

Penk Ching of Pastry Bin also got a bronze with Spring Blossoms, a cake of an intricately fashioned cherry blossom tree and Chinese lanterns.

PAP’s mix of professionals, students and entrepreneurs was also popular among Singaporeans who cheered for the Filipino contingent. Their support for the Asian Pastry Cup trio of Arnel Paris (Sofitel Philippine Plaza), Amador Mendoza (Bellevue Hotel) and Martha Ebro (Global Culinary Academy) had organizers and even judges smiling.

PAP heads Buddy Trinidad, James Antolin and Penk Ching also attended the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS)-certifying judging course to strengthen the Alliance’s representations in similar events in the future.

The FHA/APC is indeed a big step toward the Alliance’s goal of landing the Pinoy talent in the global arena.
